Referrals and Admissions
At Swalcliffe Park we have a proven record of successfully
engaging secondary aged students who present with a range
of developmental, learning, emotional and/or behavioural
difficulties. Young people admitted to Swalcliffe Park School
will generally have a Statement of Special Educational Needs
which will contain a diagnosis of EBD (Emotional and/or Behavioural
Difficulties) or ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder)/Asperger
Syndrome. However, our experience is that as EBD is a generic
term, it will frequently encompass a number of diagnosed
or possibly undiagnosed developmental disorders or special
educational needs including: ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia,
Language Difficulties, Opposition Defiant Disorder (ODD),
Conduct Disorder (CD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
and Attachment Disorder (AD)
At Swalcliffe Park the Governing Body fund quality training
to underpin continual development of staff skills in managing
the difficulties these developmental disorders present. Consequently,
we provide a specialist provision that can successfully engage
young people who present with a range of challenging and
dysfunctional behaviour.
Our admission criteria for a young person is:
- secondary age range or, in exceptional circumstances, direct
admission into our post 16 provision for young people who
present with ASD
- a developmental disorder, learning difficulty or behavioural
difficulty that we have previously successfully managed
- an identified class space
- an identified unit space compatible with the age group
and developmental stage of the young person
- behaviours that do not endanger Swalcliffe Park being
a safe learning and living environment for students
and staff. For
example, young people who present with a history
of serious offending, fire raising, violent behaviour,
sexualised
behaviour or substance abuse would not normally
be considered
